Where: The Diamond, 3001 North Boulevard, Richmond, VA 23230. The race starts in the Flying Squirrels' stadium and winds through local neighborhoods, finishing on home plate! Here's a map of the course.

When: Saturday, April 28, 2018. Here's the schedule:

  • 8:00 a.m. — Registration and packet pick-up
  • 8:30 a.m.—New this year: Pre-race tailgate party begins

  • 11:15 a.m.—Awards given to top finishers

Why: Because Central Virginians are stronger than childhood cancer. This race is ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation's largest annual fundraiser and helps to provide assistance in the form of financial support, emotional support, educational information, and kindness to children with cancer and their families when they are most in need of a helping hand. ASK provides quality of life services to help families endure the stress and hardship of helping a child fight cancer. All funds raised stay locally in Central Virginia to help our friends and neighbors in their time of need!

It's disturbing to learn that 1 to 2 children in Central Virginia are diagnosed with some form of childhood cancer each week. That's an incredibly disheartening statistic. But what can you do? Participating in the ASK 5K & Fun Walk is a great place to start making a difference.

Your race registration ($35 in advance, $40 on race day for adults; $20 in advance, $25 on race day for youth age 17 and under; kids 5 and under are free) gets you more than a t-shirt and finisher's medal―though you'll get those, too. You'll also receive a ticket to return to The Diamond to watch a Flying Squirrels' home game on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 6:05 p.m. and celebrate ASK Day at The Diamond.

The Race Festival and Tailgate Party — a new addition to the event this year — features live music from Richmond band The Jangling Reinharts, plus finish line foods and fun kids' activities to keep little ones entertained.

ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation, a Richmond-based organization, has raised more than $1.5 million in the last 12 years of its annual 5K & Fun Walk event. All funds raised go toward improving the lives of Central Virginia children who are fighting cancer by providing support on a social, emotional, financial, and educational level to children with cancer and their families.

"This is CLG's 4th year sponsoring the ASK 5K & Fun Run. We are committed to supporting the ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation and the critical work they do to help Central Virginia families," said Matt Lastrapes, one of CLG's founding partners and a Richmond personal injury attorney. "We hope you'll join us for the event and also stop by to say hello to us at the Commonwealth Law Group booth on Saturday morning at the Diamond!"

Founded 43 years ago in a Richmond hospital waiting room, ASK currently funds three full-time positions at Children's Hospital of Richmond: a child-life therapist, a child psychologist, and a chaplain, who all work alongside medical staff to provide critical support to local families from the initial diagnosis through ongoing treatment of childhood cancer.

The ASK 5K & Fun Walk is a truly unique, inspiring event. In 2017, more than 1,500 people on 68 teams participated in the event, raising over $145,000 and rallying around children in our community who have been impacted by cancer.

We invite you to come out and participate in this year's event as we try to top last year's fundraising numbers ‒ we'll be there, and we'd love to see you!
